A commitment to wellbeing transforms your experience
Our innovative approach to wellbeing was developed in collaboration with the Normandale Center for Healing and Wholeness. We believe residents thrive when they make their own choices – so we provide lots of programs and events designed to engage them on a physical, spiritual and emotional level—and families are welcome to join in. It’s all about living life on your terms. Programming and amenities at The Colony actively address the six dimensions that contribute to wellbeing: physical and emotional health, social relationships, intellectual engagement, spirituality and vocation.
Innovation in Action
WE ENCOURAGE EMPOWERMENT
Well-balanced activities are planned daily by our chaplain and full-time Active Life Manager. See what’s happening this week at The Colony.
Active Enjoyable Life
Healthy Bodies & Hearts
The Colony’s state-of the art Fitness Center and Tai Chi room can help you take your personal fitness to a new level. Whether you prefer working out alone or participating in group classes, we’ve got you covered.
Join in as many group classes as you like, including seated Tai Chi, healing exercises, arthritis and balance classes, travel and relaxation classes, aromatherapy and walking club. It’s all covered in your monthly rent!
Social & Spiritual Engagement
There’s always something happening at The Colony — and you and your family members are always welcome to join in the fun.
Arts, crafts and games are always available. Social events, bingo, themed parties, music programming, concerts, worship services with our Chaplin on-site and other events happen every week. Get out and about on regular day trips as well, to shopping malls and downtown Minneapolis, baseball games and casinos. Sometimes there’s no particular destination—just a scenic drive to admire the falling leaves or flowers in bloom.
We also host large-scale events through-out the year, such as festive holiday parties, the annual Eden Prairie High School vs. Colony staff football game (played at The Colony), The Colony State Fair and Alzheimer’s Fundraiser Memory walk.
Lifelong Learning & Growth
People acquire wisdom with age — but it’s learning new things that keeps us young. The Waters Academy offers higher education courses taught by professors and experts within each subject area. Whatever type of book you love to read, chances are there’s book club at The Colony waiting to welcome you, too!
We also provide opportunities to share your time and lifetime of learning with peers and young people. Many residents participate in our Backpack Buddies volunteer program, where they read to local elementary school children. We also offer intergenerational programs that bring residents together with others to share experiences.
